WORKSHOPS  IN SOUTH LINCOLNSHIRE

These courses are aimed at complete beginners. The sewing skills course if for those who have never used a sewing machine before and will introduce them to new skills. The pattern cutting courses are for those who wish to make their own clothes and getting a good fit.


Beginners Pattern Cutting - skirts

Using the standard size 12 block or your own personal block.  You will start the day by tracing around the block and adding seam allowances. This will be the start of your pattern, from here you cut the pattern out in calico, and make up. For those who have made a pattern from their personal measurements we will check the fit and adapt if necessary. (If a major fitting problem is detected a new block will be made at no extra charge.)

In the afternoon, using 1/4 scale miniature blocks and by eliminating and changing the darts you will make up 2 skirt styles the 'A' line and the gored, You will then make a faced waistband and a yoke.

Pattern Cutting Skirt styles

This is a continuation from the beginners pattern cutting - skirts.   During the morning, using the 1/4 scale blocks you will learn how to place more flare into skirts,  add inverted and box pleats and how to make do variations of the godet.  In the afternoon using a full size block, you will make a full size pattern for the skirt of your choice.

 Dates for this course are: Monday March 19th and Friday 25th May 2012

Beginners Pattern Cutting - Bodices

 This is a two day course as we cover the bodice and sleeve blocks. Using either a standard size 12 or your own personal bodice block,  you will start the day by tracing around the two blocks. Seams will be added and the bodice and sleeve will be made up.  For those with their own personal bodice block we will check the fit and adapt as necessary. (If a major fitting problem is detected a new block will be made with no extra charge).

During the afternoon of day 1 and the morning of day 2 you will use 1/4 scale blocks to develop your skills on dart movement this will create new styles in both bodices and sleeves. In the afternoon of day 2 you will make a full size pattern of a princess line pattern and straight sleeve.

Beginners sewing skills

This course is aimed at the complete beginner:  Using your own sewing machine you  will: 

  • Learn how to thread your machine and bobbin correctly.
  • Identify how to correct irregular thread tensions and problems.
  • Thread tensions
  • Stitch variations
  • Inserting a lapped zip
  • Sew two self neatening seams
  • Blind hem
  • Applique stitches

During the second part of the day you will use your new skills to make a reusable shopping bag and it time permits sew some simple decorative work  on it.

Dates for this course:  Monday 27th February, Monday 23rd April and Monday 2nd July 2012.

 

All courses are limited to 6 places so please book early to ensure you have a place

The course starts at 10.00 a.m and finishes at 4.00 p.m

You will be required to bring your own sewing machine and general sewing items ( a full list will be sent to you)

All other materials, tea and coffee will be provided. Please bring a packed lunch

The cost per day is £50 per person.

If you require a block to be made to your personal measurements please give at least two weeks notice. I will send you a measurement chart.
